Organization of studies during 2021 Fall term

You as our international full-time or exchange students can start your studies in a face-to-face mode until October 10, 2021 in 2021 Fall term if:

  • you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine authorised with the European Medicines Agency or with an equivalent regulator or recognised by the World Health Organization in accordance with the instructions for use of the vaccine and can present a valid vaccination certificate against COVID-19;
  • you have recovered from COVID-19 infection and can present a valid certificate of recovery;
  • you have been tested for COVID-19 by detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA, or have undergone the SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen test, if it is negative and you can present a test certificate which was issued within 48 hours.

You will be able to continue your studies in a face-to-face mode from 11 October of 2021 Fall term only if:

  • you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine authorised with the European Medicines Agency or with an equivalent regulator or recognised by the World Health Organization in accordance with the instructions for use of the vaccine and can present a valid certificate on full vaccination course against COVID-19;
  • you have recovered from COVID-19 infection and can present a valid certificate of recovery.

You also can submit an application for starting or resuming your studies in a remote mode to our International Department via email: [email protected], Study Department via email: [email protected] and Visa Department via email: [email protected] if you have a significant reason for continuing, starting or resuming your studies remotely.

It is also crucially important, especially during this unpredictable term, that all our international full-time and exchange students, attend all lectures, participate in 2021 Orientation Week and other events, remotely or in-person depending on the situation. Your participation in 2021 Orientation Week is obvious and will you to be fully prepared for the beginning of this 2021 Fall term. In 2020 Fall term the Orientation Week will be held in two modes:

  • face-to-face mode for international full-time and incoming exchange students, who will have an opportunity to enter Latvia and start their face-to-face studies or mobility;
  • remote mode for international full-time students, who have no possibility to enter Latvia and resume or start their studies in a face-to-face mode.

You may also to confirm your attendance of 2021 Orientation Week and lectures in a remote mode at the Latvian Embassies, Diplomatic and Consular missions abroad to obtain a temporary residence permit or a visa in case of delay in a temporary residence permit or a visa receiving.

2021 Face-to-Face Orientation Week and E-Orientation Week will be held from September 20, 2021 until September 24, 2021

If you have submitted an application for postponing your studies in a remote mode during 2021 Fall term and as our international full-time student need a confirmation of your student’s status – please send a request for such confirmation to our Study Department via email: [email protected].

We will start classes in 2021 Fall term from September 25, 2021 for all study courses of our Master’s Degree Programmes and from September 27, 2021 for all study courses of our Bachelor’s Degree Programmes.

We have rearranged your face-to-face studies for this recovery term, so approximately 25% of this term’s face-to-face studies will be replaced with online and e-learning forms using our Moodle environment, as well as with other forms of remote learning and independent work (projects, course papers, etc.), this mean that we will work with you approximately one day a week in a remote mode during this time. Some of this term’s classes may be conducted as on-line meetings and forums.

We kindly ask all our international full-time and exchange students check their computers, laptops and smartphones, Internet connection, headphones and microphones and prepare their ID documents, as well as check their connection to our Moodle system and the operation of all devices at least one day prior to the classes or on-line activities.

at least two days prior to the classes.

Please remember that you must attend all lectures, seminars, forums and other events in accordance with your study schedule and 2021-2022 Academic Calendar!

Please, get acquainted with 2021-2022 Academic Calendar and your academic group’s study schedule for 2021 Fall term. Both these documents include all events and study courses that you should attend in 2021 Fall term, as well as modes in which they will be conducted and links for remote lectures.

You must strictly adhere your study or mobility schedule and your academic group’s study process organisation, our instructions in the Moodle environment as well as the Latvian legislation, the Latvian State rules and regulations, internal regulations and rules of the Academy for preventing the spread of COVID-19 infection, including requirements for distancing, hygiene, health monitoring, self-isolation and quarantine which are placed on our website in the Internet for successful learning and training, timely passing of individual tasks, exams and tests and, of course, for the successful completion of this 2021 Fall term.

Please note, that if you do not attend lectures and do not pass necessary exams independently in-person or remotely you may be expelled from the Academy without refund of your application and tuition fees, as well as your guarantee payment and your visa or temporary residence permit may be revoked and you may be officially extradited from Latvia!

Please note, that your study schedule, the mode of lectures and their content, as well as the study process as a whole can be changed according to the situation.

Our Study, ERASMUS+ and International Departments, Directors of the study directions and programmes, Distance Learning Centre will provide up-to-date information on the changes in the study or mobility schedules, study courses and the organisation of the study process as a whole for our international full-time and exchange students.

Please remember, that it is your responsibility to check this information! You can always specify information about changes in your study schedule in our Study, ERASMUS+ or International Departments, as well as receive information from our Directors of the study directions and programmes, as well as in our Distance Centre.

All of the Graduation Paper presentations, exams and tests during 2021 Fall term will be conducted in both a face-to-face and remote modes according to your academic group schedule and individual circumstances. You can also receive information about the Graduation Paper presentations, exams and tests from your Director of the study direction or study programme as well as in our Information Centre by phone: +37167100636 or via email: [email protected]. Please also follow information on our website in the Internet, in Facebook, in your individual account in our “My BIA” platform and in our Moodle system.

You can undergo your work placement or internship in-person or remotely in accordance with the requirements of the certain work place. Every organisation, enterprise or firm that accepts students for a placement or internship in a face-to-face mode must sign an agreement with the Academy and the student which includes clauses on the exchange of information in case of possible infection at the enterprise, organisation or firm and student’s actions to prevent the spread of infection during their placement or internship. The organisation, enterprise or firm’s internal regulations and rules can be attached to the placement or internship agreement.

All our administrative departments and units such as Study Department, International Department, ERASMUS+ Department, Accountancy Department, Students’ Information Centre and others in Riga and in the branches of the Academy will start to work in a face-to-face, but, possibly, special for this recovery term mode, so you will have an opportunity to receive necessary advice and support on the spot. However, we recommend you where it is possible to continue using on-line technologies, such as: email, Moodle platform and phone for your communication with our administrative departments and units or make your pre-appointment by email or phone at first months of 2021 Fall term.
