Meeting with a composer from Israel

A meeting with the famous composer from Israel Nelly Hakel passed in a warm and friendly atmosphere at our Baltic International Academy. She is a longtime friend of our academy. Her concerts and the contest for young performers “New Horizons” were held here several times. The BIA library has 21 volumes of works by Nelli Hakel, which are based on the words of A. Pushkin, Janis Rainis, Aspasia and contemporary poets from Latvia, Israel and other countries.

At this meeting, the centre of attention were romances based on the words of Alexander Pushkin. When introducing the guest, BIA professor Oksana Filina noted that a number of them are based on texts that other composers have not yet used and therefore are of particular interest to Pushkinists.

Latvian poets Vyacheslav Altukhov, Pyotr Antropov, Irina Gaevskaya, Tatyana Ziborova, Ivan Kuntsevich, Alexander Semov, Irina Sidorova-Rizhskaya cordially welcomed the composer and wished her new creative success. The guest from Israel thanked the BIA library for organizing the meeting and presented a large dictionary for translating from Hebrew into English and Russian.
