From November 20 to 21 of this year, the International conference "Terrorist threat management: efficiency, cooperation and staff training of police and intervention units" was held by the State Police College. The conference brought together more than 250 participants from 13 countries and its main thematic focus was on terrorist threat management from the perspective of various law enforcement agencies.
The conference focused on issues of cooperation between police and security agencies in combating terrorism, psychological and professional preparedness of personnel, as well as training and preparation of personnel to respond to challenges and threats of various nature.
The practical involvement of conference participants in the development of training scenarios on response and cooperation in high-risk security situations, public safety and victim protection was also particularly important.
Ten foreign experts, including those from the Europol Counter-Terrorism Centre, CEPOL, the French National Gendarmerie, the National Emergency Response Unit and the Regional Armed Support Unit in Ireland, the Kharkiv State University of Internal Affairs (Ukraine), the Institute of Security and Legal Sciences of the Faculty of Security and Legal Sciences of the Police Academy in Szczytno (Poland), the Ludovica University of Public Administration (Hungary), and Mykola Romeris University (Lithuania), spoke about security challenges and ways to jointly prevent and combat them.
Several Latvian experts also gave presentations, both from institutions subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor General's Office, the Riga Municipal Police, the Prison Service, the Financial Intelligence Service, etc. The Baltic International Academy was represented at the conference by Janis Ievitis, a lecturer in the study field “Science of Law”, who gave a presentation “A vehicle driving into a crowd - a terrorist act or a road traffic accident”, sharing his practical experience as a prosecutor.
