The art exhibition with an intriguing title “I walk, I see, I draw” has received well-deserved attention from the teaching staff and students of our Baltic International Academy. It was organised by the teaching staff of the BIA study direction “Art” and the BIArt student gallery. It presents the best works of future designers, created by them in the plein air during their summer professional internship.
This year it took place not only in Latvia, but also in the Italian city Urbino, the birthplace of the famous Raphael Santi. Under the ERASMUS + programme, students took part in the art symposium UrbinoInAcquerello, got acquainted with the Urbino Academy of Fine Arts, visited the Raphael’s house-museum, took part in a number of workshops and, of course, painted as their hearts desired.
During their summer internship in nature, they created about four hundred drawings and paintings, as well as about five hundred sketches. Only a tenth of the students' works were selected for the exhibition.
As the curator of the student gallery, member of the Latvian Artists’ Union Valentin Danilenko noted at the opening of the exhibition, these first steps of future designers into the world of art deserve praise and approval.
The head of the BIA study field “Art”, assistant professor Mikhail Kopeikin agrees with him. He believes that for designers, plein air practice is of particular importance, as it forms the author’s thinking and creative skills.
Evita Meksha, Maksim Minkov, Elina Shmite, Alina Lavrinovich, Alexander Gorokhov, Galina Khodova and other students are satisfied with their internship. Their works are deservedly exhibited in the exhibition.
The exhibition is located in the BIA educational building at 4 Valerijas Seiles Street and is available during the academy’s working hours until the end of January.
