Before the New Year, a meeting of the BIA Professorial Council was held at our Baltic International Academy. At this meeting, the election of a new Associate Professor of the BIA took place. The study field “Economics” nominated the candidacy of Doctor of Economics, Assistant Professor of the BIA Andrey Surmach for consideration by the Professorial Council.
When introducing the candidate for the high position, the director of the study programme “International Finance and Economics” Zhanna Chernoshtan emphasised that Andrey Surmach grew professionally within the walls of our academy. Here he received a higher legal education, graduated from the doctoral programme “Regional Economy and Economic Policy”, defended his doctoral dissertation, and today creatively teaches disciplines on digital economics and stock markets. He has more than twenty scientific articles on topical issues of the modern economy.
Having highly appreciated the scientific work of the candidate, the members of the Professorial Council noted that it is organically linked to practice. His doctoral dissertation “Financial Development Policy of Riga and the Pieriga Region” also reminds of this. Andrey Surmach has also proven himself to be a good consultant at the Budget and Finance and National Economy Commissions of the Saeima of Latvia.
Quite deservedly, he was unanimously elected as an associate professor of the Baltic International Academy at the end of the discussion. The Chairman of the Professorial Council, Professor Alexander Masharsky cordially congratulated Andrey Surmach and wished him to continue to multiply the good fame of the BIA professorship, which currently includes 17 full and associate professors.
