Latvian State Scholarship

Do not miss the opportunity to apply for the Latvian State Scholarships for studies for full-time international students in 2024/25!

The State Education Development Agency (SEDA) has announced the application conditions for the Latvian State Scholarships for Studies for foreign full-time students in 2024/25.

The amount of the Latvian Scholarship for Studies is:

  • 500 euros per month for Bachelors and 2nd-level professional higher education students;
  • 600 euros per month for Masters students (starting from the 4th year of studies);
  • 700 euros per month for PhD students.

The application period starts on February 1, 2024, and ends on April 1, 2024.

The Latvian Scholarship is granted for a period of:

  • up to 10 months for Bachelor's and Master's degree studies;
  • up to 11 months for PhD studies.

You can apply for the Latvian State Scholarships for studies in 2024/25 if:

There are two types of applications:

  • Applications for Bachelor’s and 2nd-level professional higher education are accepted from full-time international students who, at the time of application, have completed at least one academic year at their home institution or the Academy.
  • Applications for Master’s and PhD programmes may be accepted upon admission to the Academy for the summer intake of 2024/2025 following the conclusion of a study agreement or from students who have already been enrolled at the Academy and have completed a previous stage of study by the time of application.

Application Stages:

  1. Applicants should submit the following set of documents:
    1. Curriculum Vitae (only CV Europass template: europa.eu);
    2. Letter of motivation;
    3. Copy of the most recent HEI qualification or diploma supplement;
    4. Two letters of recommendation from an academic staff member of HEI signed within the last six months;
    5. Copy of ID or passport;
    6. Copy the International Certificates confirming at least B2 level or other confirmation of English Proficiency

  1. The Academy staff will prepare a confirmation letter and approve a study plan for the respective applicant only after the pre-evaluation of the received documents. Our staff will prepare two additional letters of recommendation and an academic transcript for full-time international students already studying with us.
  2. Once the documents are received from the Academy, the applicant must submit an electronic application for the scholarship on the website of the State Agency for Educational Development, register in the system (at the link: https://www.viaa.gov.lv/en/studies) and create a profile with a unique login and password.

You will need to upload the following documents into the system when submitting your electronic application:

  1. Copy of a letter by the Academy;
  2. Curriculum Vitae (only CV Europass template: cedefop.europa.eu);
  3. Completed study plan form (Form template: https://www.viaa.gov.lv/en/studies);
  4. Letter of motivation;
  5. Copy of the most recent HEI qualification or diploma supplement;
  6. Two letters of recommendation from an academic staff member of HEI signed within the last six months;
  7. Copy of ID or passport;
  8. Copy the International Certificates confirming at least B2 level or other confirmation of English Proficiency.

Please note:

  • All documents in foreign languages other than English must be translated into Latvian or English and officially certified.
  • The application is only completed electronically, and all necessary documents must be uploaded to the system. SEDA will not consider incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete applications or applications that do not have all documents uploaded.
  • the scholarship can be awarded not more than for two consecutive terms to a person.
  • no scholarship is awarded if a student stays less than 15 days in Latvia.
  • the scholarship cannot be used to cover travel expenses to/from Latvia, only for the tuition fee for accommodation and meals;
  • the scholarship may not cover all expenses in Latvia;
  • the scholarship cannot be awarded concurrently with other scholarships;
  • you should make your arrangements for insurance coverage;
  • students from one country shall not be awarded more than 10 per cent of the scholarship financing available for the respective year.
