At the initiative of the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), since 1999, World Poetry Day has been celebrated in many countries on March 21. In honour of this significant date, a festival of poetry lovers was held at the European Centre of our Baltic International Academy, which was attended by students and staff of the BIA.
The script for the literary and musical composition entitled “Earthly and Heavenly Love” was prepared by the famous poet and writer Vyacheslav Altukhov. He also played the male role in a theatrical production based on the poems of Maxim Gorky, and the female role was played by the BIA librarian Kristina Lyakhova.
Their poetic duet was well complemented by the poets Irina Gayevskaya, Olga Vaganova, Pyotr Antropov, Ivan Kuntsevich, Iraida Kelmelene, Natalya Lebedeva, Valentina Gnatyuk with their poems. They and poetry lovers read poetic works of poets from different countries in English, Belarusian, Latvian, German, Russian, and Ukrainian.
Musical greetings were warmly received by the participants of the poetry festival, who were prepared by the vocal ensemble “Rodnik”, the trio “Romantika”, the famous bard Yuri Tikhomirov and saxophonist Vladimir Zvyagintsev.
