A bright palette of impressions about China

The exhibition “Palette of Impressions” about China aroused a lively and deserved interest among students, lecturers and guests of our Baltic International Academy. It was organised by the  art gallery BIArt of the academy on the eve of the Chinese New Year. The bright and colourful exhibition consists of around sixty paintings by twelve Latvian artists who, at the end of the last year, made a creative trip to China on the initiative of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Latvia.

And the Latvian artists had plenty of impressions, noted the organiser and coordinator of this trip, the head of the Chinese painting studio “Lidojošā Ota” Jekaterina Bai at the opening of the exhibition. We visited the Department of Arts of the South China Normal University, the Guangzhou Art Museum, saw many sights of this multimillion city, visited the Haidžu National Park, met with masters of Chinese painting and calligraphy. These impressions and emotions were reflected in the works of the participants of the trip.

This bright and joyful exhibition is a good New Year’s gift from Latvian artists and the BIArt gallery to our Chinese friends, said its curator, member of the Union of Artists of Latvia Valentin Danilenko when opening the exhibition. These works will write a new page in the creative biography of each participant of the exhibition, among whom are many famous painters, such as Lyudmila Perets, Vera Grota, Ekaterina Bai, Valery Makovoy, Alexander Neberkutin, Liga Kempe.

Vice-Rector for Science, Associate Professor of the BIA Vladislav Volkov cordially congratulated the participants of the exhibition opening on the Chinese New Year and noted that our academy has long-standing friendly ties with China. A number of Chinese students have graduated from our academy, and artists from China have exhibited in our BIArt gallery. And the new exhibition will make a new contribution to the development of friendly ties with China in the field of education and culture.

This conclusion was supported in his speech by the BIA lecturer Raimonds Rublovskis, who recently attended a scientific seminar in China. This exhibition, he noted, makes the culture and traditions of the great eastern country closer and more understandable to us.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Consul of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Latvia Song Danhui. She thanked the Baltic International Academy, the art gallery BIArt and Latvian artists for organising a bright educational exhibition, and noted that it will deepen the understanding of Latvians about China.

The exhibition is located in the BIA building on 1/4 Valerijas Seiles Street and will last until March 10. It is available free of charge during the working hours of the academy. It is well complemented by an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy samples performed by students from European universities.
