Vladimir Starkov’s anniversary photo exhibition

The talented photographer Vladimir Starkov, a tireless photojournalist for the newspaper “SEGODNYA”, is well known and respected at our Baltic International Academy. He is always a welcome guest at events held at the academy, which later come to life in his photographs. Here, Vladimir Nikolaevich has repeatedly held workshops for students on the basics of photography. He was deservedly awarded the BIA Silver Badge of Honour.

His personal exhibitions have been held here more than once. And it is quite natural that his anniversary photo exhibition, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the photographer, is taking place at the BIA in the BIArt gallery.

When opening the exhibition, the Chairman of the Senate of the Baltic International Academy Stanislav Buka cordially congratulated the hero of the day and noted that his works always bring joy and help to discover something new in the surrounding world. He has something to show people, something to surprise them with.

The curator of the exhibition, member of the Union of Artists of Latvia Valentin Danilenko agrees with him. He believes that Starkov has a special gift to see the unusual in the ordinary, to notice bright moments in people’s lives and to accurately depict them in photographs. The moments captured by the master are so natural that you believe them at first glance. They are exciting and memorable.

And indeed - his photographs “Paradise Groves”, “Moon on the Roof”, “Cheburashka in Space”, “Snow Fireworks”, “Greeting of the Tiger” and many others are difficult to forget.

Vladimir himself, evaluating his works, follows a principle developed over the years of creativity: “In a photograph, everything should be natural and truthful. Then it will stir up the emotions of the viewer.” And that is why he is against staged shots and photoshop.

The anniversary exhibition was highly praised in their speeches by journalist Arkady Kariev, member of the Old Believers Society of Latvia Vikenty Bakhilov, poet Petr Antropov, technical director of the BIA Irina Kuzenko, artist Georgy Kozlov, blogger Anna Soboleva, and bard Yuri Tikhomirov performed Bulat Okudzhava’s song about how “the photographer clicks and the bird flies out.”

The exhibition is located in the educational building of the BIA on 1/4 Valerijas Seiles Street and will last until May 24. Admission is free during the working hours of the academy.
