Following a good tradition, the study programme “Art” of our Baltic International Academy invites foreign designers to join the State Commission for the examination of diploma theses by students of the School of Design. This academic year, its full members were Professor of the High Art School of Urbino (Italy) Soha Khalil, member of the Union of Finnish Designers Irina Rebnitskaya, member of the Union of Finnish Graphic Artists Aleksandra Kulonen. Our academy was represented in the commission by Assistant Professor of the BIA, Director of the School of Design Mikhail Kopeikin and Chairman of the Board of the Latvian company “Apgāds Mantojums” Maris Degis.
At the suggestion of the School of Design, foreign specialists held interesting and useful workshops for students of the study field “Art” before the defense of diploma projects. Soha Khalil introduced students to the peculiarities of creating animation with typographic resources. The play of light and shadow in watercolour became the subject of a presentation by Irina Rebnitskaya. Alexandra Kulonen demonstrated many interesting things about the methods of creating typographic models for printing. Visual and informative presentations by foreign designers were well complemented by a workshop by Maris Degis, during which he introduced students to the peculiarities of new types of paper and their selection for printing.
The defense of diploma theses by students of the School of Design was also creative, friendly and successful. Two of them – Martins Konoshonok and Alisa-Aurelia Yegorova deservedly received a grade “excellent”.
When assessing the results of the defense of diploma theses, the chairperson of the state commission, professor Soha Khalil noted that graduates of the Baltic International Academy demonstrated good professional training, commendable creativity and the ability to combine design principles with modern computer technologies. She expressed confidence that the new bachelors will be in demand in the field of design.
The head of the study field “Art” of the BIA, the director of the School of Design Mikhail Kopeikin cordially congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and wished them to increase the good reputation of the Baltic International Academy with their creative work.
