Italian motifs at the BIArt gallery

The art exhibition “PLENERS” aroused great interest among lecturers, students and guests of our Baltic International Academy. It was organised by the lecturers of the study field “Art” at the BIA and the BIArt Gallery. The exhibition presents the best works of future designers, created en plein air during their summer professional internship organised as part of the ERASMUS+ international exchange programme.

This year, it was held not only in Latvia but also in Southern Italy, renowned for its picturesque landscapes, ancient castles and numerous museums and galleries. BIA students visited several of them. They participated in a series of workshops and, of course, painted as their hearts desired. The best works created en plein air formed part of the exposition with Italian motifs. The exposition was beautifully complemented by watercolours from the School of Design lecturers Mihail Kopeikin and Irina Kopeikina.

As Valentin Danilenko, curator of the BIArt gallery and member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia, noted at the exhibition’s opening, these first independent steps by future designers into the world of art deserve praise and encouragement. Mihail Kopeikin, Assistant Professor and Head of the the study field “Art” of the Baltic International Academy, agrees with him. He believes that plein air practice is especially important for designers, as it develops their creative thinking and skills.

The exhibition also received high evaluation from Vladislav Volkov, Rector of the Baltic International Academy and Associate Professor. He noted the growing professional level of the students’ works and invited them to participate in a research-to-practice conference to be held at our academy on December 12-13.

Linda Vinkarklina, Aleksandr Gorohov, Yulia Berzina, Valeria Kurakulova and other students were also satisfied with their practice. Their works are rightfully featured in the exhibition. They were all presented with certificates of participation in the first art exhibition. Second-year student Andrei Savkin, who actively participated in organising the exhibition, earned the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition.

The exhibition is located in the BIA academic building at 1/4 Valerijas Seiles Street and is open to visitors free of charge during working hours of the academy until mid-December.
