“Dreams and Illusions” is the title of a new and intriguing exhibition at the BIArt Gallery of our Baltic International Academy. It features works by five women artists from Riga for whom painting is not a primary occupation but a passion, a hobby. They paint not for fame or income, but for the soul, and this gives their works a special charm.
Among the artists are well-known judge Gloria Sorokina, skilled technologist Tatiana Khmelyova, and schoolteachers Anna Kenne, Natalia Gabrevicha and Lyudmila Andrejushkova. They are united not only by similar dreams and illusions but also by the studio of well-known Latvian artist Sarmite Riekstina, under whose guidance they continue to refine their skills.
As Valentin Danilenko, organiser and curator of the exhibition and member of the Latvian Artists’ Union, said at the exhibition’s opening, each of them has her own style of painting, her own themes, and her own vision of the surrounding world. This makes the exhibition interesting and engaging for viewers.
Each of them has followed her own path in mastering the visual arts. For example, Gloria Sorokina took her first steps toward the secrets of painting back in school. Anna Kenne, on the other hand, began painting seriously only after receiving her diploma of a designer from our Baltic International Academy.
The Rector of the BIA, Associate Professor Vladislav Volkov congratulated the artists on the opening of the new exhibition and pointed out that it is especially interesting for students, as it broadens their understanding of Latvian visual art and teaches that it is always good to dream.
The exhibition is located in the BIA academic building at 4 Valerijas Seiles Street and will be open until the end of January. Admission is free during working hours of the academy.
