The summer school held at our academy within the framework of the ERASMUS+BIP (Blended Intensive Programme), which combines in-person and online learning, aroused great interest among European higher education institutions.
As noted by the organisers and coordinators of this school, BIA assistant professor Jekaterina Voznuka and lecturer Julija Rastorgujeva, it was traditionally international in nature. Alongside Latvian participants, students from Lithuania, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, France, Croatia and the Czech Republic broadened their knowledge at the summer school.
The summer school programme began with a mandatory online day, after which participants continued their studies in person in Riga. Lectures were delivered both in person and online by lecturers from the Baltic International Academy (Latvia), Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (Latvia), South-West University “Neofit Rilski” (Bulgaria), University Bourgogne Europe (France), Karlovac University of Applied Sciences (Croatia), International Business School (Bulgaria) and University College of Business (Albania), as well as representatives of the companies “Socintegra” (Latvia) and “Syncmer” (Latvia).
The main topic of the lectures at the BIA summer school this year was the implementation of the European Accessibility Act in business, tourism, law and media (EAA 2025), main theme of which is the requirement “From Regulation to Innovation”. According to the participants of the school, this series of lectures significantly broadened their understanding of how to make businesses, tourism services, cultural institutions and information resources more accessible to people with disabilities and other special needs.
The cultural part of the summer school programme was also interesting and informative. The participants visited the National Library of Latvia, the Latvian National Museum of Art, Bauska Museum, Bauska Castle, Rundale Palace, as well as learned about the activities of SUSTENTO, the largest association of organisations for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses in Latvia.
At the conclusion of the summer school, Associate Professor and Rector of BIA Vladislav Volkov addressed the participants. He emphasised the importance of the summer school for the students, which broadened their horizons and revealed new information regarding the application of the European Accessibility Act in business, tourism, law and media. He encouraged them to maintain ties with our academy and to collaborate with the BIA scientific journal – “Baltic Journal of Legal and Social Sciences”.
