Program content

The program is delivered by PhDs and MAs, assistant professors and professors, guest lecturers from other Latvian and foreign universities, as well as sectoral professionals.

The study program is based on contact activities and independent work and research of students in the Master’s study program. Within the framework of the contact activities, a significant role is played by internships and integrated master seminars, which aim at the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, research and practice.

Students have the opportunity to use the BIA library book collection, which is regularly updated with the latest literature. The University's book kiosks are regularly open in the blocks of the University buildings, where students can buy the latest literature in Latvian, English and Russian.

On the Internet, students can find information about conferences, news in scientific and student life, the library's collection, and a list of classes.

During the practice students can get acquainted with the work of a social assistance organizer and evaluate the possibility to continue their studies in the second level program of social welfare.

Career opportunities

The Master's degree provides professional development for social work practitioners, and the knowledge and skills acquired will ensure their ability to work effectively in social welfare and health service structures, to conduct research and to work in an academic environment.
