Doctoral dissertation based on the experience of Latvia

Another doctoral dissertation in economics was successfully defended at our Baltic International Academy. It was prepared by a doctoral student of the BIA from Latvia Edgars Stals under the guidance of the BIA Professor Zhanna Tsaurkubule.

The topic of the dissertation “Assessment of the Effectiveness of Long-term Social Care Institutions and Forecasting its Volume in Latvian Regions” aroused interest among the participants of the meeting of the BIA Promotion Council for Regional Economics and Economic Policy.

The reviewers, who were Doctor of Economics, leading researcher at Daugavpils University Olga Lavrinenko, Associate Professor at the University of Latvia Juris Barzdins, Professor at the Wroclaw University of Economics Ewa Pancer-Cybulska, assessed positively doctoral dissertation by Edgars Stals, its topicality and innovative nature. The Polish reviewer delivered his speech online.

Summing up the results of the defense of the doctoral dissertation, the Chairman of the Promotion Council, Associate Professor of the BIA Vladislav Volkov noted that this is one of the first scientific works in the field of social policy and social work in Latvia. It is undoubtedly interesting for scientists working in the social sphere, economics, sociology, and for practitioners. He highly evaluated the creative approach of Edgars Stals to the development of his dissertation and emphasized that he deserves the scientific degree of Doctor of Economics.
