The exhibition of amazing graphics by the famous artist Joseph Elgurt, organised by the student gallery BiArt in honour of his centenary, which was celebrated in Latvia and other countries on February 12, aroused great interest among lecturers, students and guests of our Baltic International Academy.
This memorial exhibition, noted its curator, member of the Union of Artists of Latvia Valentin Danilenko, is a tribute to respect and memory of a great friend of our academy and gallery, an outstanding master in the field of silk screen printing and seriography. Our Academy is rightly proud that we have a memorial classroom with a permanent exhibition of Joseph Elgurt’s works donated by him.
Assistant Professor of the BIA Nadezhda Pazukhina, who knew the artist well, recalled that the famous art historian Svetlana Khaenko discovered him and made him a friend of the academy. She highly appreciated his mastery, optimism and cordiality of this courageous man who suffered the horrors of the Holocaust and did not lose faith in people.
Other participants in the opening of the exhibition – artists Babken Stepanyan, Larisa Shellere, Vladimir Pavlov, Nikolai Krivoshein and the famous collector Yuri Slavik, spoke about that warmly and touchingly. They emphasised that the memory of Joseph Elgurt and his work will remain in the memory of future generations for a long time.
The exhibition is located in the educational building of the BIA on 4 Lomonosova Street, the entrance is free until the end of March during the working hours of the academy.
