Following a good tradition, the new academic year at our Baltic International Academy began with the Orientation Week for first-year students. Memorable souvenirs and an extensive programme of meetings and events awaited them at the Academy. It was divided into two streams – one for Latvian students and the other for international students. In the first group, the working language was Latvian, in the second – English.
International first-year students were warmly congratulated on the beginning of the new academic year by BIA Vice-Rector for International Affairs Inta Buka, Vice-Rector for Science Vladislav Volkov, and coordinator of the international student and teaching staff exchange programme ERASMUS+ Viktorija Petlak.
They acquainted the newcomers with the organisation of the study process in the autumn semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, with the practical aspects of life in Latvia, with the opportunities for participation in scientific events, with the peculiarities of our academy, and wished them a creative and responsible approach to acquiring their chosen specialities and using all the resources of the BIA.
Introductory lectures on bachelor’s and master’s programmes were delivered by the heads of the study programmes and fields Yuliya Mahmudova, Vladislav Volkov, Inese Ratanova, Zhanna Chernoshtan, Irina Plotka, Ksenija Doronina. Lecturer Vyacheslav Zhilinsky conducted an introductory testing in informatics. International relations coordinator of the BIA Admissions Committee Diana Cibisova conducted an informative tour of the BIA classrooms, library and information centres.
Coordinator of the international ERASMUS+ programme at the BIA Viktorija Petlak introduced the newcomers to the opportunities of this programme, which allows students to expand their knowledge and undergo internship in many European higher education institutions.
At the end of the Days of acquaintance with the BIA for international first-year students, a tour around Old Riga was held.
