Students, lecturers and guests of our Baltic International Academy were very interested in the unusual exhibition “Vocational Professions”.
Its initiator, foreman, BIA graduate Sergey Yakovlev explained that he wanted to draw attention to vocational professions in this way, to raise their prestige in the eyes of young people. His initiative was supported by the curator of the BIArt student gallery, member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia Valentin Danilenko, who invited artists to exhibit their paintings on this topic. And a number of paintings were taken from the BIA storerooms.
Thanks to joint efforts, the exhibition features paintings by such famous artists as Iosif Elgurt, Edgar Mikelson and young painters, including graduate of our academy Julia Demenkova. And the professions depicted are very different - both familiar to us and those that have already disappeared, such as the “egg beater” depicted in the painting by Guntars Svikis.
When opening the exhibition, the Chairman of the Senate of the Baltic International Academy Stanislav Buka thanked its initiator and artists for organising the educational exhibition and noted that it is especially interesting for international students who are getting acquainted with the culture and traditions of Latvia.
At the exhibition, the results of the creative competition among the participants of the exhibition were summarised and the works by Guntars Svikis, Mairita Tsoneva, Yulia Demenkova, Igor Filipov, Anastasia Solomchak were awarded BIA diplomas.
The exhibition is located in the BIA building on Valerijas Seiles Street 1/4 and is open during the working hours of the academy until November 15.
