The creative work of the famous French chansonnier of Armenian origin, composer, poet Charles Aznavour is well known and popular also in Latvia. A long-time friend of our Baltic International Academy, writer, publisher, chairman of the Riga Armenian Community Alexander Geronyan has made a significant contribution to the popularisation of his creative work.
Last year, in honour of Charles Aznavour’s 100th anniversary, he prepared and published a collection of poems by the chansonnier “August in Paris” translated by Latvian poets. And this year, he completed his new book “Eternal Love of Aznavour” and presented it at the European Centre of the BIA. In this book, he thoroughly covered the most important stages of the life and creative work of the best singer and composer of the 20th century.
The presentation was attended by staff of the academy, activists of the Armenian community of Riga, poets and bards, representatives of national cultural societies, and admirers of the chansonnier’s creative work. They congratulated Alexander Geronyan on the completion of an important and necessary work that revealed many new aspects in the life and work of Charles Aznavour.
Poetess Angela Gasparyan read her translations of Charles Aznavour’s poems from the collection “August in Paris”. And famous Latvian bards Alexander Beknazarov and Yuri Tikhomirov performed songs based on the chansonnier’s poems.
The author presented one copy of his book to the Scientific Library of the BIA and intends to present the other to the Charles Aznavour House-Museum in Yerevan.
