An important part of the BiArt student gallery at our Baltic International Academy is personal art galleries. On their walls, there are paintings donated to the academy by artists or their heirs. In fact, such a classroom is at the same time an exhibition hall of the paintings of one or another artist. At the BIA, this honour has been bestowed upon Iosif Elgurt, Artur Nikitin, Svetlana Hayenko, Edgar Mickelson, Vladimir Pavlov, Valentin Danilenko and other artists.
In March, Valeria Shuvalova joined their ranks. The basis of her memorial classroom consists of 26 paintings, which were donated to the Academy by her mother Lidia Habacheva. She reminded, that her daughter was a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union, taught at the BIA, where her memorial exhibition was held last year. In her speech, Lidia Habacheva noted that her daughter’s paintings will be kept in a safe place and will delight students and lecturers of the BIA.
Accepting the priceless gift, the Chairman of the BIA Senate Stanislav Buka warmly thanked Lidia Habacheva and emphasised that Valeria Shuvalova’s paintings adorn the academy and will introduce students to Latvian contemporary art.
Warm words of gratitude to Lidia were expressed by the curator of the BiArt student gallery Valentin Danilenko, the artist Nikolay Krivosheev, the bard Yuri Tikhomirov, the poet Pyotr Antropov and other staff members of the academy.
You can get acquainted with the paitings of Valeria Shuvalova from 11:00 till 17:00 in classroom 303 in the educational building of the BIA on Lomonosova Street 1/4.
