We inform you that on September 18 of this year, the meeting of the Study Quality Commission (SQC) was held and a decision was made to refuse the accreditation of the study field "Psychology".
The motivated decision of SQC will be received within a month and it is appealable, therefore BIA is considering the possibility of appealing it in accordance with the procedures established by law, respecting the rights and interests of students.

Advantages of the programme: The specificity of the Baltic International academy academic Bachelor’s study programme “Psychology” finds its expression in the paradigm of experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, social psychology, and implicit social cognition. Not only students obtain theoretical knowledge in general study courses, they can apply the acquired knowledge during training sessions conducted in the Research Laboratory of Neurocognitive and Implicit Processes.
In-depth study directions of programme: social psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, experimental psychology, implicit social cognition.
Graduating the academic Bachelor’s study program “Psychology” students have acquired the following knowledge, skills and competences:
Knowledge:
- Systematic knowledge about key areas of psychology, the ability to analyse, compare and critically evaluate major research theories and methods in the context of psychology and related disciplines;
- Knowledge how psychological phenomena can be explored and explained from different perspectives;
- Knowledge of the methodological basis of psychological research and principles of its formation, as well as basic knowledge of methods of psychological research and its evaluation;
- Knowledge of the ethical principles that underpin the work of a psychologist.
Skills:
- To use analytical and critical thinking as well as scientific approaches and effective strategies for problem solving;
- To set forth psychological knowledge both verbally and in written form, as well as to present its argumentation;
- To plan, select, and conduct research; to analyse, interpret and present the data obtained by various methods;
- To carry out a specific research project according to methodological and ethical principles of scientific psychological research, as well as to submit a report in written and verbal form;
- To observe ethical principles when conducting psychological research;
- To take responsibility and show initiative by working individually, in a team, or by leading other people;
- To make decisions and find creative solutions in changing or uncertain circumstances;
- To formulate and analytically describe relevant to the field of psychology information, problems and their solutions; to explain, present and reasonably discuss the latter with both specialists and non-specialists.
Competences:
- The ability to independently obtain, select, analyse and critically evaluate information from various sources and use it;
- The ability to critically approach knowledge in general and psychological knowledge in particular;
- The ability to make decisions and solve problems based on empirically based knowledge in psychology and other social sciences;
- The ability to develop psychological research independently correctly;
- the ability to conduct research in the field of psychology that is consistent with basic principles and ethics of psychology;
- The ability to respect such scientific values as openness, rationality, accuracy and intelligence, as well as to understand the difference between knowledge and opinions;
- The ability to assess the impact of their professional activities on environment and society, to participate in the development of the field of psychology.
Career opportunities:
- The academic Bachelor's degree gives the right to continue studies in Master's study programme, professional Master's study programme and second level professional higher education programme, provided that the requirements for admission to the respective study programmes, including appropriate prerequisites for successful acquisition of the study programme (Cabinetof Ministers Regulation No 240"Regulations on the state academic education standard").
- Graduates of the study program have the opportunity to carry out psychological research in various research institutions, conducting interviews, processing data; work in professions that require good communication skills and teamwork.
Programme content.
The first study year. You will acquire knowledge in the following courses: general psychology, personality psychology, history of modern psychology, introduction to the psychologist's profession, biological foundation of psyche, sociology, logic and rhetoric, psychology of communication, statistical methods in psychology (including Computer Processing of Research Data), methodology and methods of psychological research, foreign language for psychology (English/German), Study Work I, Practice I.
2nd study year. You will acquire knowledge in the following courses: developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, experimental psychology, neuropsychology, psychometrics, social psychology, introduction to psychological counseling. Study Work II, Academic practice.
3rd study year. You will acquire knowledge in the following courses: family psychology, organizational psychology, health psychology, introduction to implicit social cognition, introduction to legal psychology, differential psychology, information technology in psychology, Bachelor’s Thesis.
Study Programme is carried out according to BSA Licence No.04030. The new accreditation process has started.
