Latvia is located in the North East of Europe on the east coast of the Baltic Sea. It is one of three Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia).pils

It is border with Estonia, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania.

The territory of Latvia is 64 589 km2 from which 62 249 kmis land and 2 340 kmis water.

Our coastline is 498 km. The Latvian highest point is Gaizinkalns which is 312 m above sea level and the Latvian deepest point is Lake Dridzis which is 65 m below sea level.

The history of independence of Latvia began on November 18, 1918 and in 1991 Latvia along with other Baltic countries regained its independence.

In 2004 Latvia was joining the European Union and nowadays it is a member and a part of Eurozone, Schengen, WTO and OECD.

Latvia is a parliamentary democratic republic.

President is elected by Parliament (Saeima) for a four–year term and is the head of state. The main power is vested in Parliament which consists of 100 members.
